To Cast Away a Treasure at Need

I am so enjoying this unpacking of Frodo's box.  So many fascinating memeories - and it is only right, I think for not every memory to be happy - but so much a part of who he had become that he couldn't elease it, but trusted these three to eventually finish the job.

Author's Response:

Exactly. And seeing the hold that the chain (as a symbol of the Ring) still had on Frodo despite all his efforts made Merry, Pippin and Sam understand like nothing else could, just how deeply their dear one needed the healing he'd find across the Sundering Sea.

This was something they needed as well, in order to complete their own process of healing.

One more chapter and an Epilogue to come.

Arrival at Bag End

At 'Tolkien 2012 - The Return of the Ring' a legal gentleman called Murray Smith gave an excellent talk on "the importance of law in J. R. R. Tolkien’s 'The Hobbit', and related matters of morality and business".

I am sure he would be fascinated to read this - it is so very in keeping with all he thought. (Actually you can still read the resumé here - http://www.returnofthering.org/timetable_items.php#M.Smith )

Author's Response:

Oh, that sounds like an interesting talk! I will definitely check it out.

I must give credit to my co-author Gryffinjack for all the legalese. She is an attorney in RL, specializing in probate, and works for the state in which she lives. The two of us spent hours over the phone and through email figuring out just how to work in the hints of law that JRRT gave us in The Hobbit and LotR, plus what he had to say in Letter #214 (that letter was a major influence on this story). We also had to work in some of the fanon law I had used in previous stories in order to preserve the continuity with my 'verse.

We had a lot of fun with it though! When she came up with the Adoption Certificate, with all of those "W"s I knew I just had to try and calligraph it!

I'm glad you are enjoying this!

Prologue

Oh - this sounds as if it is going to be fascinating.

Author's Response:

Thank you! I'm going to try and update about three times a week, but the formatting is going to be a little difficult, so it might not be that often.
