This is even more powerful on rereading. A truly tragic glimpse of Sauron's evil influence that even Aragorn cannot overcome.

Thanks so much for this additional review. I like to have all my stuff added to an archive I post at (except specialized archives, obviously) so I am slowly reposting my older fic here. I do not expect reviews but of course this is a special treat.

I love this story as it feels like a lost chapter from  LOTR being found. Over the past few years Arwen has grown on me as a character and I've come to love her as a favourite. I have often wondered how she felt while the grerat events of LOTR were taking place and this excellent story more than satisfies my need to know!

Chapter 1: Chapter 1

So often history is full of Kings and Queens, Generals and Presidents and other famous people  while the ordinary people who made their triumphs possible are forgotten  by history. To give Tolkien credit, he does mention ordinary people in his epic, but fans usually neglect them in favour of the  great heroes. These touching glimpses of ordinary folk somewhat redresses the balance and truly bring these folk to life, the soldier who loses his sweetheart is especially touching, as is the father and the mother of the soldier who loses a leg.

Virtuella makes me care about all these people and wonder what happened to them.

An excellent debate. I love Thorongil's clever answers. An interesting look at this fascinating triangle.

Author's Response:

Having been raised in Elrond's house, I suspect young Estel learned how to be honest without telling too much, for sometimes too much truth can be dangerous.  And it was good to explore just what one incident might have triggered Denethor's full envy of Thorongil.

This was lovely. I liked the advice Merry was given and that some Eastern lands were free of Sauron's influence, which is  how I see it too.

Thanks so much, Linda!  I'm glad to know you enjoyed this.  Yes, JRRT's notes about the Blue Wizards in HoMe XII, The Peoples of Middle-earth, seemed to suggest that not all the East was under Sauron's influence, so it has been fun to take that notion and run with it.
